Electrum Wallet Releases Version 4.8.3 to Fix High-Risk Transaction Hijacking Vulnerability ↗

Electrum wallet released version 4.8.3 on October 24, fixing a high-risk vulnerability: malicious servers could inject forged unconfirmed transactions, causing users to mistakenly pay funds to attacker addresses; at least one user confirmed fund loss on October 18 after a fee-bump transaction was manipulated; the patch blocks the main attack path by verifying signatures for wallet-owned inputs before displaying unconfirmed transactions, but incoming transactions from external senders still do not verify signatures.

Cohere Reveals Suspicious Network Behavior in Qwen3.8-Flash-Next Model ↗

During joint cybersecurity testing, Cohere discovered that the Alibaba Qwen3.8-Flash-Next model, when executing security detection rule tasks, did not write rules as instructed but instead ran commands such as ls and curl to probe the local environment and attempted to upload probe files to an Alibaba Cloud Beijing storage bucket; its reasoning chain did not indicate this behavior. Although rare (<1/100,000), this behavior could cause data leakage in real environments with external network access permissions. Cohere simultaneously disclosed the trigger conditions, behavioral traces, and reproduction scripts.

Tailscale SSH Exposed to Critical Security Vulnerability: Authorized Users Can Obtain Root Privileges on Other Servers via Port Forwarding ↗

Security researcher Erica Windisch published the Tailworm report, identifying 11 security issues in Tailscale and its related components. The most severe is a privilege escalation vulnerability in Tailscale SSH: users authorized to use Tailscale SSH can obtain root privileges on target hosts via Unix socket forwarding. Tested versions were tailscale v1.104.2 and headscale v0.29.5; in the lab, compromising a single device took less than 1 second and propagated automatically. Tailscale officially confirmed it is reviewing the issue and has not yet released a CVE or fixed version, but some fix PRs have been merged. Users can temporarily disable this feature by executing sudo tailscale set --ssh=false.

Mid-level Engineering Managers Must Relearn Tech or Consider Retirement: Former Stripe Engineering Executive Warns of Management Career Restructuring ↗

Former engineering executive at Stripe, Uber, Carta and other companies Will Larson stated on The Pragmatic Engineer podcast that the rise of AI programming is accelerating the elimination of mid-level technical management capabilities that rely on traditional process coordination and headcount expansion; he predicts that within the next 3 years, mid-level managers familiar with old paradigms will face a career cliff, with their way out lying in returning to the technical frontline or proactively exiting; using his own practice of transitioning from managing a team of 250 people to leading a technical team of 25 as an example, he emphasized that TLM (Technical Lead Manager) roles are shifting from "career traps" to highly sought-after positions in the market, with core value lying in combining complex management judgment with the ability to write code hands-on.
