Why Papertrade Derivatives Platform Achieves High Protocol Revenue Through Trader Losses ↗

Papertrade is a synthetic perpetual contract trading platform built on HyperEVM, launched on October 10, 2026, supporting BTC/ETH with up to 1000x leverage; its protocol revenue over the past 7 days reached $42.24 million, ranking third across all networks on DefiLlama, but this revenue primarily comes from excess yield distribution to LP pools formed by trader losses (accounting for 93%), rather than fees; PAPER tokens are minted through losses, with issuance efficiency dynamically decaying as LP scale grows, allowing early participants to obtain higher token quantities and priority in staking dividends at lower loss costs; asymmetric profit-and-loss mechanisms result in net attrition even when long and short positions hedge each other, compounded by liquidation risks from high leverage, significantly increasing the actual cost of volume-farming strategies; the sustainability of the protocol depends on real trading demand, LP redemption capacity, and the balance between PAPER issuance growth and revenue growth.
